In last week’s paper I read a small notice: “a 75 year old lady in Georgia (a former Soviet State – now independent country) was arrested and she’s facing 3 years prison for the theft of glassfiber cable, which she intended to re-sell as scrap metal. This is NOT the story – folks – but the consequences: the old shag has cut off the internet users of millions in parts of Georgia and Armenia. They had to wait more than 12 hours- some several days – until the connection was up again. The network-company in charge is unable to explain, how the old lady could ever have FOUND the cable in the first place.
A similar story occurred last Summer in Vienna: a Mafia kind of organized band of thieves – meanwhile under arrest – and strangely – also coming from Georgia – had stolen a heavy copper “earthing cable” of an automatic control Switch station for the subway of Vienna – which – consequently – burnt down in overdrive – and caused a standstill of the subway for several hours and reduced service of trains for about 2 months. These control switches are UNMANNED stations – all is automatic, and they are in the middle of nowhere.
Here, again, officials were unable to explain. HOW the thieves could have KNOWN about the existence of such a cable (underground) and that it was so valuable;
So it turns out that our country – due to the European Union- and its new addition of Eastern countries like Bulgaria and Romania as well as Hungary – all the rubble is entering for the sole purpose to steal. This used to be a country in which the rural population used to leave their house-door open and unlocked all day long. Nobody would even dream to steal something that’s common property and known to serve for the good of all people – like the railway. And apparently communism taught the people that nothing is private property, everything belongs to all people, and so it’s ok to steal – because you are actually stealing from yourself, if at all!!
What I’d like to bring up to the conversation here – and I’m saying this – I’ve been in Georgia twice, and only had positive experiences – the cuisine and the wine are beyond this world and let me tell you – people are not desperately poor there – I’ve seen more desperate poverty in USA or South America or Asia – in many places – so – the explanation is not to be found there.—-.
My question is: what makes people so ruthless to steal stuff that they KNOW will make millions of people suffer – lose money – lose business – come late to work- not being able to go to work and so no pay etc. Theft, which in all cases is a sin – but theft of communal property – is much more so!
I’m wondering why so much staggering crime is coming from a source of 4,5 millions inhabited country like Georgia – this was counted last in 2006 – meanwhile apparently 1+ millions have fled the country since independence in 1991. Seems they have found richer places where they found more valuable things to steal from??? So all in all- the population is not more than Vienna and its surrounding provinces – and yet “they rule worldwide CRIME?
” HOW COME? A second Sicily – a hotbed of worldwide Mafia and crime?
The individual suffering from communal theft – like stated above – cannot claim any insurance to compensate his losses – as this is considered “force majeure” in insurance talk -= act of God; but in fact – God has no play here – rather – I wish he would strike these gangsters with a shot of lightening. How can it be, that police in Austria claims 37% of crime in Austria is due to Mafia gangs from Georgia??? A small place like this – doing so much harm? And we have so MANY immigrants from the East here – from all over the place – but Georgians taking so large a stake at crime? HOW COME?
- But besides this – do you believe that there is a strong negative strain to some particular geographical places – like Georgia and perhaps Sicily and its people- in particular – I mean – surely there are MANY other such examples – WORLDWIDE- but I would not know about them???
Have you such examples in YOUR area – where people say – from XY most people are gangsters- and its somehow shown in statistics as well? How do you explain such coincidences?
Like to Georgia – this small country – was born the dictator STALIN - in the little town of Gori – about 40.000 inhabitants, in Dec. 18th 1878. These people are STILL proud of Stalin – his monument everywhere in town. People “worship” him as a hero. This is NOT 2nd hand information – guys – I’ve been there – seen it – heard it- and was so surprised I could hardly close my mouth to catch breath!!!

inspirational story
While the rest of the world knows for historical fact, that STALIN has sent about 6 millions people to death by starvation by forcing his communist method of “collective farming+ agriculture” on the people of the Soviet Union, he also sent millions to the gulag and almost certain death there – in labour camps, condemned in “secret” court proceedings – against so called “enemies of the state”.
Today – in 2011 – you go there to Gori – and the majority of people WORSHIP their STALIN. Can you believe it?
In Germany and Austria it is forbidden to even have a photograph of Hitler in your house, any kind of worship to the ancient natioanl-socialistic regime will be persecuted and you’ll land in jail – in 2011 and its been like this since 1945 – and 1954 – the existence of the new Republic.
Now – you may have a lot to say against Adolf Hitler – but before he came to power – at least he was NOT A CRIMINAL. But STALIN – as a historical fact – WAS a criminal. His most known crime was a bank robbery at the “Bank of Tiflis” in June 1907, and 40 people were killed in the process. The “revolutionaries” under Stalin’s leadership gained 250.000 Rubel in this robbery alone – but it’s by far not the only one on record.
I won’t even try to explain the complex history of this small spot on earth to you called Georgia – better read it up on Wikipedia – it makes interesting historical lesson of a country claiming itself to be “the balcony of Europe” – I rather see it as a melting pot of all kind of folks with no culture of their own, except the one to steal and live off what you can steal from others. Work as a means of living is looked down upon.
How else could it be that – a traitor and terrorist and dictator like Stalin still has a place for worship – in our world today, in 2011. It seems like the development of society in the past 60-80 years has just fled by these people. They are living in a land of dreams , where they hope a new “saviour” impersonated in someone like Stalin will come and solve ALL THEIR PROBLEMS.
Never – will they recognise that it’s them – themselves – who are called forward to solve their own problems.
Me and my friends have been much pleasantly surprised by friends from the NEAR EAST where all those “revolutionary” activity took place recently – and that they are NOT calling for “a strong man/personality” to solve their problems – BUT they just want STRUCTURES of society to ENABLE them to solve their own problems – which they think they are well capable of. They are calling for CHANGE – and rightly so. And it seems that it’s only a minority percentage of their nations hanging on to old dictators – because they received large favours from them! All others are hoping for change.
So – let’s just hope they find it – ! It’s a long journey – so we see in Georgia – a country which has had a lot of chances to do better for itself, and always fell into its own (=the strong man who’ll come + solve all our problems) trap.
Today – its rare that any European country will grant entry visas for people from Georgia. Their reputation could not be worse worldwide.
And again – why do you think so much evil is concentrated in one spot and spreads to its PEOPLE?
Do you know similar spots worldwide?
Would be interesting to learn!! HERE ARE SOME RECENT HISTORICAL FACTS:
Since around 2005, the positive view of Stalin is taking an upwards turn. . To those who refer positively to Stalin – are theformer Major of Moscow – J.M. Lushkow, and several Veteran Organisations. But I’d like to stress the point: Russia’s Minister- President , Mr. Wladimir Putin, Präsident Dmitri Anatoljewitsch Medwedew and others – however – are publicly calling Stalin an outlaw and convict !!! TODAY !
2008 came a dicey moment for Russia – a poll was run – for Russia’s most important historical figure – within state TV – Rossija 1, and all + sundry suspected that some manipulation was needed to put Stalin to 3rd position after Alexandr Newski and Pjotr Stolypin. Holy cow!
Stalin-grandson Jewgeni Dschugaschwili sued the Russian paper Nowaja Gaseta, because they wrote about mass murder through Stalin. To restore Stalin’s honor and pride – the dictator’s grandson sued for money for compensating his PAIN – as well as restitution of honor and pride of the dictator – a sum of 10 million rubels. (€ 220.000). Actually, he lost the case in Oct. 2009 in front of the Basmanny-Court of Law, which normally is well known to support regime critics.
Because thousands of murders ordered by Stalin personally are “on file” and testified, media is free to publish stories about them – as they wish.
Nobody discusses when his monuments will be taken down EVERYWHERE – and for ever – to remove the shame and guilt this dictator has pressed upon his “democratic” republics.
If we walk this sort of idea into a circle – it will still take some decades – if not centuries – until such news arrives in Georgia, so it seems. Georgians are – this will surprise you – confessing Christian – about 85% of the population are – .
